Escape

Escape

The softly falling snow of yesterday,
So fine and clean –
Is now like sugar soiled by coffee spoons.

Pedestrians, vehicles and soot have had
Their way with her,
Who now lies helpless, ravished in the streets.

Too cold to melt, she still can sublimate             \1
And so escape
To be untouched and virgin-pure again.

And as we see, the snow is leaving us
And soon she will
Be free, for a blissful while, of urban filth.
